Commemorating Our Fallen Heroes, Rain or Shine.

Many people are attempting to make the most of this holiday despite the forecast of rain and overcast skies in many parts of the country. Rain or shine, however, many people are striving to create a moment that fosters enjoyment, relaxation, festive activities, and the welcoming of good company. While Memorial Day is considered the “unofficial start of the summer season” when many look forward to embarking on the favorite activities ubiquitous during the warm-weather months, we must remember the reason for commemorating the final Monday in May.

Today, we observe a time-honored federal holiday of the United States that commemorates the men and women of the military who died during their service to the country.

The holiday is marked by various activities, from parades in many towns and cities from coast to coast, to music events held around the country as a celebratory remembrance. One notable event is the National Memorial Day Concert held on the eve of Memorial Day on the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol. Many individuals, including civilians, public officials, veterans, and those currently serving in the military, usually choose to spend the holiday visiting the graves of veterans who died in service.

Let’s commit to always honoring and remembering these fallen heroes, rain or shine, whether in person or virtually, and the sacrifices they made in the name of democracy and freedom.
