Welcoming the Arrival of Fall by Reconnecting

It’s a while since I published a post on this blog. As the desire to find something to write culminated with many ideas about the current change in seasons, I thought to myself, “What better way to reconnect with the HPB community than by celebrating the arrival of autumn.” Of course, there is always the desire for the warm days of summer to linger well past the fall equinox. But autumn has much to offer.

Enjoying the Colors and Sweet Aromas

The autumn months are known for the colorful foliage, apple-picking outings, hayrides, and countless homes and small businesses adorn with pumpkins, gourds, and dried corn stalks. And for those called to the kitchen because of the many delectable items from the fall harvest, it means the enjoyment of preparing several savory delights. Such mouth-watering treats include apple and pumpkin pies, peach cobbler, roasted butternut squash, pumpkin spiced latte, and hot apple cider with a dash of cinnamon.

Showing the Love

Besides the traditions common to the post-summer season, it’s welcoming to see organizations and businesses associate the advent of fall with the importance of valuing our relationship with the people in our lives.  A recent CVS Health FaceBook post, for instance, described autumn as a time “to reconnect with family and friends and keep each other happy and healthy.” It is always heartwarming to hear individuals, businesses, and organizations in our community encouraging everyone to make the most out of a given season by also appreciating our relationship with loved ones.

Why Not Strike While the Iron Skillet is Hot?

What are your plans for the season? Trying to figure out which outing to do with your family? Are you looking to decorate your home with stunning fall colors? Interested in trying a different autumn dish for the first time? Thinking about that special someone you haven’t heard from in a while?

One thing we’re guaranteed to have during the fall season is an endless list of outdoor pursuits. Simply look up local events and activities on the web. You’re bound to find something (e.g., apple picking at the local orchid) that you and your loved ones will enjoy and likely establish as a seasonal pastime.

For anyone looking to welcome autumn by spicing up her or his living space with shades of brown, yellow, orange, and red along with fall harvest décor, just ask H. Camille Smith. In her HGTV online article, “Our Favorite Fall Decorating Ideas,” Smith provides many picturesque décor ideas to festively achieve this goal.

If you’re looking to do something fun and different when it comes to a favorite autumn dessert, try using a skillet to make an apple pie. Yes, a skillet. The steps are described by Lauren Miyashiro in the Delish online piece, “The 57 Most Delish Skillet Desserts,” where she and other food enthusiasts give new meaning to the phrase, “Strike while the iron is hot.”

And if striking while the iron is hot means jumping on sweet opportunities to connect and catch up with the people who matter most to you, then what are you waiting for? Just do it!

It is for this reason that this autumn seems to be the perfect time to reconnect with the readers of this blog. And it feels great to be back. There already is another piece in the works that I am looking forward to sharing with you. So, stay tuned.

In the meantime, I wish you all a happy and healthy autumn season.
