Today, we observe World Cancer Day, an international campaign to promote the prevention, early detection, and treatment of cancer. It’s also a day that honors the survivors of cancer, those whose life was taken by this disease, the dedicated professionals caring for those afflicted with one of the many types of cancers, and the researcher working tirelessly to find a cure.
I encourage all to engage in an activity, such as fundraising events or educating others on the importance of early screening, that contributes to the worldwide effort to treat and eradicate all forms of this disease. I also want to underscore the importance of making healthy lifestyle choices (e.g., eating healthy, quitting smoking) that can minimize the risk of getting cancer.
